I bought this on "Black Friday" 2007 and it is a good camera. I'm now selling it because of a few things. The first being personal, although I don't mind the size, I found that I take less pictures because of it's larger body. Second because of the shorter battery life, and third being the lag time. That stuff is in all of the other reviews. Now that I read these other reviews and see that it's holding it's price I almost want to keep it. The optical stuff is great and it does take awesome crisp pictures! It shows almost no signs of wear and tear after 2 years. The body is very lightweight, but it is sturdy. And yes the lens cap comes off all the time, so what. I found a case that fits the camera and extra batteries perfectly. Samsonite is the name on it it is square-ish in shape and has zipper closure with velcro. They were seen at Wal-marts everywhere! Not hard to find. The display looks a little grainy, but I assure you that the pictures come out fabulous!

To comment on some other reviewer's problems with the LCD screen turning off. I had this problem only when batteries were almost dead. And for a while I thought it was broken for good. However I was smart enough to find a little button after putting in new batteries that turned it back on and I have never had a problem since. I assume that I pushed the button by accident while taking a picture, very frustrating, but easily solved. Turn your LCD back on!

Loved the camera, until the LCD screen quit - L. Pierce -
This camera is great, loved it, have had it for a year and a half. Went to take pictures with it today (used it fine yesterday) and the LCD screen just shut off, wont come back on. I got it as an after christmas mark down, so I only spent 180 dollars on it, but still, I never expected it to do this. I still have my 2 previous EasyShare cameras and they work fine. Heard from a couple other people that this has happened to them too. I don't recommend this particular camera, but I do like the Kodak brand.

This camera works pretty well if you manipulate and use the environment and different features to your advantage. I had to learn to do that with my really old 3 mp HP camera so I'm somewhat familiar. Like the HP, when it's not using flash, it collects light from the environment in order to get the picture. Sometimes it's a good thing--you just have to be sure you're mostly still while it's doing this.

I bought this camera under the mistaken presumption a greater number of megapixels meant better resolution. In some cases this is true. (I also bought it because it uses Li-ion batteries and was still pretty cheap.) I've only had this camera a couple of days, but I'm already getting the hang of some things. I've learned the best quality is obtained by using the "leaf" mode--that button labeled with a flower on the right on the bottom wheel. Also, it's best for me not to use the flash; I've never liked flash on any kind of camera. Anyway, in a couple cases I used the flash (several versions of the flash and SCN mode) and the pictures actually turned out far less clear than without the flash. Queer.

Random, but a review read it's not a brand name. GE is a brand name: General Electric. They make a variety of products, and I suppose my general satisfaction with its other electronics also propelled my decision to get this camera.

For some reason my camera can't seem to keep track of date (it's been about a month off--I have to make sure the date is correct each time I turn it on, though I guess it doesn't really matter. They don't show up on the pictures, but it's annoying to see it in the corner when viewing on the screen). It can keep track of the time, though it does seem to be lagging by a couple minutes. It also doesn't seem to understand I don't like using the assist beam because after a couple pictures without it, it will revert back to using it.

Specifically I go into stabilization mode, no flash, leaf mode in order to get the clearest pictures. When I put the pictures on my computer, I was surprised by the clarity--I could see the threading of my pillowcase, nearly each individual eyebrow and eyelash hair, individual red threads which had found their way from my hat to my bandanna, and other tiny lint.

The zoom on it is wonderful. It may look pixelated and terrible on the screen when its at its tightest, but when it actually takes the picture, it turns out very clear. It actually excited me to use it, taking pictures of cars in a parking lot from behind a sliding glass door yards away. Couldn't even tell the picture was taken from behind a glass door.

Movie mode is functional and acceptable. (I'm not much for movies). It comes out in MOV format; I downloaded a converter to see it in mpeg.

Panoramic mode works fairly well. It does its best to match up what you take pictures of (you have to match it up to a degree, also, of course) and connects a set of three pictures. I guess the problem lies in the user, getting the shadow of the image you already took to match up as much as possible with the image you're about to take.

Portrait mode, as far as I can tell, sucks, simply put--I can't get clear pictures using it--leaf mode isn't usable in this mode. Face detection doesn't seem to be anything more than a smiley face in the middle of the screen. I've used cameras which actually detect multiple faces and keep a small box around them even as you move the camera and change focal points.

It is pretty loud when it focuses to take pictures.

The user manual booklet is rather vague and doesn't help much. I haven't used the CD yet. I haven't used any cords except for the charger since I have a memory card reader; I can't say much about the other cords just yet.

Some aspects could be much better, such as portrait mode, auto mode; it'd be wonderful if it had come with a case. The SCN mode isn't even really necessary. Overall it's a decent camera, easy to use, functional. For the most part it serves its purpose with me.

If You thought Chung's review was late, mine is much later, just got this camera off EBAY for .00, seller said the batteries only lasted 3-5 mins and included two spare NP 80 batteries, the wide angle lens and adapter and a nice case for .00. I found out the "battery problem: was the camera's auto shut-off setting after 3-5 mins. I'm not saying the batteries last a long time, far from it and as everybody has stated, get an extra one as they warning light did start blinking after about 60 shots. Took some amazing shot using macro and flash together. Good camera if you can get a package deal like I did along with some Smartmedia cards with it too, too expensive to buy alone.

Great camera - Chung Kai Chow - Austin, TX
This review is probably a few years late.

Fuji 4900 is great camera. Lots of different modes of operation, easy to switch different modes of flashes (auto, force on, force off, red eye, slow flashes). Impressive 6X optical zoom.

There is a adapter tube and clear UV filter lens at ebay.com, they are reasonably priced.

One note about batteries. Make sure you get batteries with > 2000 mA-hour. There are batteries that look the same, yet only has 1200 mA-hour, i.e. lasts half as long.

I am new to DSLR cameras and to be honest I was very intimidated when I opened the box. Now, a few weeks later, I am in love with this camera. Never, and I mean never, will I ever go back to a point and shoot camera. I am not a pro, nor will I impress you with vast knowledge about this cameras features, but what I will tell you is the picture quality is simply amazing. It's like I haven't ever taken a photo before.

Once you get familiar with what f stops do, what shutter speed does, how a flash will effect you pictures, you will get somewhat addicted to taking pictures. And once you realize how changing these settings change your pictures, you will quickly be taking high quality photos. Do a little reading, most of it for free all over the web, you will be able to produce stunning pictures. The battery life for this camera seems to last forever. I have to keep digging my charger out of the drawer because I use it so little. The viewfinder was very confusing at first. Mostly because I never handled a SLR camera before. Do yourself a favor and read the charts in the manual that explain what each one means. This seems obvious but many people shy away because they feel they will never get it. Trust me, you will. I went with the D90 because of the live view on the LCD. To be honest, I use it very little and would rather use the viewfinder now. Focus seems to take longer with live view and I'm sure it would eat the battery up faster. The LCD displays pictures nicely and I can't think of one complaint about it. You will have to hold down small buttons on various locations on the body of the camera while turning a control wheel. This was also confusing at first but it seems almost natural now. The only button location I do not like is the depth of field preview, I have a little trouble finding it without looking, but I use it very little anyway.

A tripod is a must to get nice photos, which is why I'm glad I picked this kit package. Yes, it's not a expensive model and it has a cheap feel to it, but it gets the job done. The cleaning kit is also very important as I had to use it 2 weeks in. The SD card seems to save photos very fast, faster then anything I will ever tap into. Not sure why I needed 2 USB card readers, since most computers have SD slots built in, but that really wasn't the selling point of this package for me. The extra battery was DOA, would not take a full charge. However, the fine people of ACE photography who sold me this kit shipped me a new one ASAP. The camera bag is a little small but gets the job done and protects your camera. It is not going to withstand a major impact like a hard shell case would, but for most regular folks it's fine.

I also purchased the remote shutter release which is a nice addition to have. I have used this many times with low light, longer shutter speeds. The UV lense filter they sent was the wrong size and does not fit the lense. That is the only major complaint I have.

If you are looking for your first SLR camera, this kit is it. It has everything you need to get going. I'm not sure why they call this an entry level camera. The photos I have taken rival that of pros. Perhaps it's the smaller things, like not being weather proofed. I don't know since I'm not a pro. Nikon has my business from here on out until they sell me a lemon. I really don't see me buying another Nikon for a while but if I do, they have my business. Just remember a couple of things. I never handled a SLR camera before and after 4 weeks, I am taking great photos and have learned how to use the majority of it's major modes and features. I am far from a pro but my photos are looking more and more like that with every passing day. You will make a wise purchase if you get this kit.

Nikon Coolpix S8000 14 MP Digital Camera with 10x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom and 3.0-Inch LCD (Silver)

I bought the S8000 having had Olympus Stylus 740 and C50 Zoom camera's. The Nikon LCD view finder is BY FAR BETTER to see in bright light conditions than the 740 and C50. Yeah, it could be better, but it's night and day compared to Olympus.

Nikon recommends a Class 6 or higher SD card for the S8000 for faster data writing (within the camera). I bit the bullet with a Class 10 8GB SDHC by Sandisk (). To torment myself, I compared my classless regular 2GB SD card to see how much slower the data writing process was. With the camera at the highest setting (14M* 4320x3240) and outdoors, it took 1 picture every 3 seconds with either card. (For comparison, my 740 set at SHQ 3072x2304 took 1 picture every 11 seconds). Then I tried recording in HD. I'm not sure I can really see a difference using the fast and slow card! Maybe I'm not under the right conditions to see a difference, but now I question biting a bullet. The 2GB card was a freebie from my local MicroCenter store.....would have been purchased outright. I discovered 1 minute of HD video = 62MB for a quicktime movie. In my situation (basically shooting pictures), a slow card (less than Class 6) probably would have been fine. Live and learn.

Bought the "ZipKit" ( with shipping) to accessorize the camera....what a great deal! The kit comes with a USB2.0 SD Card Reader that boosts transfer time. 100MB of pictures took 16 seconds with the USB on the camera, but using the USB Card reader it dropped to 7 seconds with a Class 10 SDHC card, and 8 seconds for a classless SD card. The reader is the way to go. Obviously Nikon's recommendation for a Class 6+ SD card has nothing to do with getting pitures off of the camera.

CASES: the Olympus 202066 Neoprene Case fits this camera better than the 740 it was designed for! It's not tight and there's room for a couple extra batteries. I read concerns for the Nikon hard shell case and held off. Glad I did because I would get another 202066 if I ever wear out the Velcro.

Overall I'm happy so far. I'm wondering about battery life. With my 740, battery life was the weakest link. I was lucky if I got 3 hours (250 pics) per OEM battery (far less with non-OEM batteries). For the S8000, I'll know in August...

S8000 No Nikon NO - Goldy -
Owning several Nikons in the past and using them with great success, I felt resonably sure that the S8000 would solve or exceed my current picture needs. Well it might if I was happy with the camera. Remember, I am aiming at the camera itself not the pictures. I'll get to the pictures later.

First of all, I went through two S8000 before the third one came from Amazon and charged the battery. When the thrid camera came, I call Nikon, directly. I had them walk me through the process of everything from opening the box to plugging in the charger. I found that I had completed the task correctly, as the instruction book stated, twice before. When the third camera came and the battery was charging, I realized I didn't do enough homework. You charge the battery in the camera unless you purchcase an additional external battery charger. Realize that if you don't have an external battery charger for an additional battery you can't use the camera.

I like to be able to hold the camera with one hand. The S8000 is too thin, at least for me, to hold comfortably. There is a small thumb pad in the upper right corner of the body for your thumb and your right index finger holds the camera in front. My right hand shape was not what Nikon used as a guide when making the plans for the S8000. It felt very uncomfortable holding it with just the right hand. Most of the time I used my left hand as well. I guess most of us put our left thumb under the camera and the left index finger on top. Not a good idea!! The flash is can't pop up if your finger is holding it down. Keep in mind that normally you would be holding the camera with the left hand while adjusting settings with the right hand as the camera is designed to do. Without thinking I would just frame and push the shutter release whereby loosing the picture as the flash couldn't open.

Lastly, how much more could it cost to have two connectors for a neck strape instead of one for a wrist strape? I like having the camera hanging down from my neck so I grab it quickly and have my hands free when not holding the camera. Think about walking around all day on vacation not being able to use two hands as one hand has to hold the camera unless you put it away.

I will say this, "it takes great pictures." The zoom is excellent. The 3 inch screen is great. Ok, so you can't zoom the lens in the video mode. It has more setting and adjustments than I would ever need to use but after all, it is a Nikon !

Pentax Optio P80 12.1MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Zoom with Shake Reduction and 2.7-inch LCD (Black)

I have been using a Pentax camera, mostly on vacations, for several year and am pleased with it. I wanted a camera with a wide angle lense so I could take group pictures and landscapes without leaving out part of the scene I wanted.

After I received the Pentax P80 and started taking test pictures to see how it works, I found that the advertising about "wide angle" lense was misleading. What the camera does is stitch two or three pictures together to make one wide picture. That is hardly a wide angle lense. I already had a Canon camera that allows me to take two pictures and then stitch them together with the software Cannon provided. The Canon is a much larger camera and it is still difficult to take two pictures that can match each other enough to stitch them together. The Pentax is very small (which I like) but it is almost impossible to take two or three pictures that match enough to stitch together.

I should have known better to think I could get a wide angle lense on a camera that only cost 0. But the darn thing is so easy to carry around, and takes such good pictures, that I won't leave home without it (and my cell phone, of course).

Pentax Optio H90 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Ceramic White)

#1: Pentax Optio H90 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Zoom and 2.7-Inch LCD (Ceramic White) Reviews!

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

The Pentax Optio H90 is my eighth digital camera. I've been shooting digital since 2003 and have owned several Fujifilm and one Samsung. I still own a Fuji 8mp and a Samsung 12mp. This background is so that you know I've purchased and learned to use a number of digicams.

The Optio H90 is a wonderful little camera. It has great product design and is easy to hold and use. It has the softest shutter of any camera I've ever owned and that is a plus. The controls are very well laid out. It's internal menus are the easiest, most logical and well thought out of any I've ever looked at or used. There is surprising depth to what this camera can do. My favorite feature is what Pentax calls "Memory." This function allows you to set and have the camera remember, each time you turn it on, an extensive list of settings. The coolest of these items is the ability to zoom the camera to any focal length and have the H90 recall it. So if between the 28 - 140mm (35 equivalent) focal lengths you'd like to maybe start around a 50mm lens equivalent, you can do it. There is also a "Green Button" that allows you to take your favorite variable function and bring it out of the menu and onto the green button. I use mine to bracket exposures.

The photos are of very good quality, but perhaps just a bit soft in low light. Pentax has a post shot stabilization system, Pixel Track SR, that actually works quite well. There is a slight delay when it functions, but no more so that other cameras "fix" computations. The menu and mode functions offer an enormous variety of settings. The "OK" button sets what information you can see on the LCD screen. You just push it to see more or less information. The Optio H90 comes is three color varieties, I got the silver and ceramic white job, a very clean looking product. The screen is quite good, even in bright sunlight, but you will probably want to brighten it some to shoot is direct sun. The camera doesn't have an automatic brightness mode. It's very reasonably priced, as well.

Of course, it's not perfect. I wish it had a bit more battery life, it's about average for its class I would say. In the review mode the lens does not retract. I wish it would, in order to protect against accidental touching of the lens or possible damage. The camera batteries don't charge in the camera. That would be nice, too. I bought a SD/USB reader and upload photos to my Macs using it, thereby saving a bit of battery life.

My conclusion is that the Pentax Optio is a great camera for beginners through advanced amateur photographers. It is a camera you'll want to keep on your person at all times. The H90 delivers quality images in a huge varietiy of shooting situations. I've taken great macro photos as well as scenics with it. I recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably priced and very capable digital camera.

Cool camera & a good value - triplight - USA
This is a very appealing little camera. For about 0 there are features not found in much more expensive cameras, plus the design is clean with upbeat colors. It's also the lightest camera I've ever owned; it weighs less than my phone.

A few nice things I want to mention:

- Flash photos look great, with beautiful color and exposure. I'm constantly surprised by how well it does. I have a ,200 camera whose built-in flash can't match it without careful attention to settings. For the H90, just put it on auto and shoot away.

- It corrects distortion automatically, so curved walls and doorways shot at wide angle will look straight. Unfortunately the correction is not live, so you see the distortion when framing, then the corrected image on the LCD right after the shot (which can be weird).

- It corrects for purple fringing and chromatic aberration, which if you're not familiar with the terms, means that the blue/red/purple/yellow lines you see around highlights in most digital photos is cleaned up, so the images look more like film in that respect.

- It corrects for highlights and shadows to help prevent blowout in high-contrast scenes.

- Amazingly, it has pixel mapping. If you get a white or colored dot in every photo (a dead pixel) you can run this feature and the camera will "map" it out, essentially repairing it. Very few cameras have this; usually, you have to send it to the manufacturer to have this problem fixed.

- The LCD is actually crisp and very nice.

At this price, there are downsides of course. The main problem is image noise. The sensor is so tiny that at any setting above ISO 200 photos begin looking like sandpaper, losing detail. This is a concern for me, so I keep the ISO as low as possible at all times. In program mode this is limited to 160, but in auto mode you can go down to 80 (which is strange, this should be the opposite). Having to do this causes another problem: since the camera has no true image stabilization, it becomes very tough to get sharp photos in low light, or even in shady areas. I manage to get around this with some careful hand holding and bracing against various objects, something I mastered during years of Canon Elph ownership from 2001-2005. Sometimes this actually leads to more interesting photos, but sometimes you just can't get the shot.

Still, I have a lot of fun with the H90. It's a pleasure to use and I enjoy the challenge of squeezing the best photos I can out of it.

i bought this camera to replace my nikon coolpix L1 [which underwent an unfortunate accident]. i LOVED my coolpix L1 -- more than any other camera i have had or currently have, including my canon rebel. i love the P60 just as much. it has features not often found on other cameras in this class: 5x optical zoom, a hand grip, and a viewfinder. i find that when set on automatic, the camera makes excellent decisions -- better than my rebel. in fact, i like spending time comparing shots of the same thing taken by both cameras. if you need a trusty camera, small enough to carry around in your pocket, and smart enough to make good decisions for quick shots, i highly recommend this camera.

Nikon Coolpix P60 8.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom with Vibration Reduction (Black) Features

  • 8.1-megapixel resolution for stunning prints as large as 16 x 20 inches
  • 5x optical zoom; vibration reduction
  • 2.7-inch high-resolution LCD; Electronic Viewfinder
  • In-Camera Red-Eye Fix; enhanced Face-Priority AF automatically focuses on up to 12 faces
  • Capture images to SD memory card (not included)

dreaded lens error after 2 months - StarMarc - USA
Bought for AA batteries, pic quality, viewfinder non-giga-pixel overload.
It took great pictures.
Two months later died of the lens error in India.
The product is tempting, but DO NOT BUY IT unless you really like to gamble.

Samsung Digimax L60 6.0MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver)

#1: Samsung Digimax L60 6.0MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver) Reviews!

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

One of the things that other reviewers left out is how great a camcorder this is. Ok, I know it is a camera, but in video mode it will shoot a high quality video for about one and one half hours with a 2 Gb card. It uses Sd cards, very cheap (I paid for mine on sale at Best Buy). It has an image stabilizer built in but you still have to hold it steady, a tripod is best. When I show friends video they cannot believe it is from a camera. Mpeg4 640X480 at 30 frames per second. The really cool thing is you can zoom while video recording. Most cameras do not allow this. It is only 3 times optical but I have had good results filming little league baseball.
As a camera, it is fair. Good prints but long shutter lag. You can put it on program rather than auto and then force the flash to always go off. You get better pictures inside and out. The backlight function works very well as another reviewer mentioned.
It is small so I carry it everywhere and makes a great second camera.

Samsung Digimax L60 6.0MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Silver) Features

  • 6.0-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality 14 x 19-inch prints
  • 3x optical zoom; 2.4-inch LCD display
  • 11 scene modes including Night, Portrait, Children, Landscape, Close-up, Sunset, Backlight, Fireworks, Beach and Snow, and Text Recognition
  • Built-in image editing functions including Trimming, Resizing, and Rotating
  • Records VGA-quality video (640 x 480 resolution) at 30 frames per second

greatly disappointed - Rick Saier - detroit, mi
I purchased this camera as a gift for my son a year ago. He has had little occasion to use it. He estimates it's been used 4 times. Now as he attempts to use it over the holidays, the shutter won't open and the lens won't come forward as the camera is turned on. It is two weeks out of the manufacturer warranty. Of course, neither Amazon or Samsung wish to accept responsibility now that it's out of warranty. They wish me to pay more to have a camera repaired that's had very limited use. I certainly don't wish to purchase any more Samsung products and must admit I'm very disappointed with Amazon's response, considering how many items I've purchased through them.

i love this camera. i bought it for my daughter's fifteenth birthday. we took it to new york city with us & it has great battery life, it lasted us all day & we charged it during the evening. i love everything about this camera. the set up is so simple, it takes literally five seconds & is all done on the camera itself. the battery charges very fast & lasts long. the camera is just the perfect size also, it can literally fit in the palm of your hand. i love the simple buttons & sleek design. this camera is very easy to operate. the manual is very easy to read & follow. also, i would definetly buy from this seller again. the camera shipped very fast. even with the standard shipping i ordered we had the camera two days after i placed my order. it is just an amazing camera to use, not too tricky but definetly high quality. it takes very clear & bright pictures, great quality. i love this camera, definetly a smart buy.

I usually like everything, but this was the worst purchase ever. - Stefanie Scott - St. Louis, MO
This is the worst camera that I have ever used. I liked the look of it and I have had Fujifilm 35mm cameras that I really liked. The camera has so many features that it is almost impossible to use unless you have read the entire manual and are quick enough to navigate the settings to capture a picture. The flash created a sort of halo effect in every picture that I used it on and all of the shots came out sort of grainy looking. I will admit that I am a novice camera user; this is the first digital camera that I have ever owned and I am well into my 20's. Even still, I feel that a digital camera of this price should be better in quality. It is NOT intended to be "point and shoot" and the picture quality is awful. I returned it and bought a Kodak that was less expensive and everything that I was looking for. Props to Amazon for processing my return seamlessly.

This little number is so slim and lite it can go anywhere with you. I love the color of the body & the photos are definitely good quality. The touch screen is a pretty cool feature although it is a little more confusing for me to learn. There is no view finder, the screen is the view! My biggest issue is the slow shutter speed. This is common with point & shoot cameras. I'm spoiled & used to the much faster EOS rebel XS shutter speed. All said and done this is a great camera with a good package at an affordable price.

Skip this camera - Eric Siron -
We bought this camera to replace a less-than half as expensive one that our two-year-old slammed to the ground in a tantrum. In hindsight, I wish we had re-bought that one.
The "Auto" setting is guaranteed to produce blurry, yellow pictures in anything other than incandescent or natural light. If you have good lighting, then you get blurry pictures with vivid color. If you tinker with the manual settings, you can get a picture in non-natural lighting that is nice, but if you forget to change it in other settings, I.E. you're chasing your toddler inside and outside, then it wrecks all your other pictures. This completely defeats both the purpose of "auto" and the fact that we elected to spend extra on the camera because we're not professional photographers and don't want to be. If fluorescent bulbs were a concept invented last week then I'd be more forgiving, but come on Nikon, they have been around for a very long time, learn to deal with them already.
I'm not sure why the pictures are blurry, but it seems all the fancy steadying tech supposedly in this camera is junk. My 2-year-old 0 camera didn't have any of it and those pictures are much sharper (and properly white-balanced in "auto").
Having spent more on this camera than on any camera prior and not being the sort of folks that just have 0 to burn, we were extremely cautious with it. After getting about 300 pictures on it, the shutter button is permanently stuck in the halfway point. If we really smash the button in all directions, it will eventually take a picture, but the effort in doing so results in even blurrier pictures than normal. I was tempted to hold off on the review until I found out how Nikon intends to treat us in the warranty department, but I'm assuming I'll at least have to pay shipping charges, and I'm not certain I want to spend even more money risking the possibility of bad customer service on a product I'm already experiencing serious buyer's remorse over.
The battery pack is bittersweet. It lasts a pretty long time compared to the regular AAs from our last camera, but you can pick up AAs anywhere and they're comparatively cheap. For this, you either need to shell out a not insignificant chunk of change on a spare battery or take no pictures while the one you've got charges up. Overall, I think I'd rather have AAs than a battery pack, but I imagine that's personal preference.
It is compact. However, so are most of the rocks my daughter picks up, and those are equally functional to this camera, less frustrating to operate, and free.

Overall, buying this is an expensive way to get a cheap camera. I'm hoping I can find the box to the camera my daughter broke so we can go back to that brand.

I'm a photographer from way back, old school, always a proponent of film cameras. This is my first digital, bought it specifically so I can shoot images and upload to sell on eBay.

I'm a believer. This camera is very easy to use, easy to set up, and takes really good photos. I picked it specifically because it was 12MP, for better quality images, and Nikon, because their optics have always been so good.

It's user friendly, intuitive controls. I barely looked at the instruction booklet. And, a snap to upload images to my computer.

Pictures are really sharp, almost look 3 dimensional. I'm having a lot of fun just playing around with it.

Was a great value for the price, too.

If you're looking for a quality point and shoot digital, you can't go wrong with this one.

Great, but ! - Fred A. Burki -
The Nikon S3000 arrived in quick time and in good shape. The only problem I have with Nikon is NO MANUAL. es, there is one on line but that's amess and too much to print out. I asked Nikon for a printed copy .00 but they said "OUT OF PRINT"

I am from the old school and like to have a manual.

I bought 2 Olympus cameras for Christmas, the FE-180 for my in-laws, and the red Stylus 750 (Oh so stylish). I paid twice as much for the 750, but on Christmas morning when we were trying out our new cameras, they took to a novice point and shoot user the same photos. If anything the FE-180 was easier to start using had the same shooting guides as the more expensive model, and the convience of AA batteries that are easier to find if you forget to charge the Lithium one on the 750. It doesn't have as many manual settings, but for my in-laws first digital camera, it has worked out perfect.

OK lest first talk about the Canon T1i. It's a really great and sound camera. It has some really nice features for a DSLR, including some you won't find on lesser models. It does an excellent job when shooting at higher ISO's which is a big plus coming from a point-&-shoot camera where I couldn't go above 200 without tons of noise. With the T1i I can go 1600 and not worry about it at all. Heck 3200 at times is more than fine and if you have a noise suppression program it will be more than fine. The only negative and it's not a big one but it's the feel of the materials of the casing. Compared to Nikon's it just feels a bit cheap, but the actual results from the camera are anything but cheap.

On to the lenses. The kit lens is ok, it has a pretty high f value for a kit lens which is nice but for me I'm loving the 55-250 IS zoom lens. It has a great range to the lens and the IS is great in low lighting situations. With the IS on both lenses you can shoot at really low shutter speeds if you have a steady hand and not have any problems.

The bag and other accessories that come with the package or OK. The extra battery is a must have! The bag works fine. It's a bit big and I would like it if the strap extended to a larger size but hey I'm a big guy. The 8GB memory card is nice, it's not the best quality card but works well and trust me you'll need at least an 8gb card for those RAW files. Honestly that's all that I've used of it. All of those other items won't be used that often but will be nice to have when you have clean the camera.

Overall I'm loving my purchase. The T1i is a great body and the getting the 2 lenses are a big plus and they are a great combination together.

I have always liked kodak`s quality of picture's colors. The camera itself is very very good. I picked the pink, to satisfy my girls desire, but this color fades and scratches really fast. does not look nice now but is one of the best digital cameras I have had. The only thing, everybody mentions it and is true: the only battery: the kodak (not generic, not radio shack) KODAK clic battery recommended. Lasts about a week of medium use, and recharges fast. DO NOT WASTE your money in other. and the charger must be adequate for that battery. not all chargers even fixing this battery charge them good. But i'd buy this camera again if lost it, so it means i am happy with it.

I am really happy with this camera. It's not a SLR replacement, but is very good and so much more practical in many situations.

I got the camera to take on a backpacking trip because I wanted to go as light as possible-- but still wanted to get good pics. The camera exceeded my expectations and delivered great images. I was really happy with the colors it produced. There are situations that the sharpness is a litte soft-- especially with the zoom and/or if you are trying to crop into the shot tight, but over-all the images are great. The wide angle is awesome!

The touch screen UI worked well and was pretty cool. However-- I found it was quicker to use the dedicated buttons on the right for quicker/tactile access to common features. I love it that this camera still has these buttons compared to the newer model which is all touch-screen.

I was also very happy with the video quality. The 720p clips looks great. I cut them into my 1080i HDV footage and it's hard to tell the difference. Zoom while shooting is digital and should be avoided.

I bought several extra batteries too, but I was pleased that I really only needed one extra as each battery lasted 7 days (about 500 pics) while in the wilderness. NOTE: I used minimal flash and shooting video will zap the battery much faster than pics.

PROS:
- Size
- Good/Great Images
- 24mm wide-angle is great
- Fast and accurate auto-focus
- Nice feature set and shot modes
- Touch screen cool, but...
- Still has vital physical buttons
- LCD is bright/vivid even outside
- Custom self timer (with multiple shots)

CONS:
- Sharpness with zoom
- Touch screen can be accidently activated
- Not a SLR replacement (but fits in my pocket)

Fujifilm Finepix E510 5MP Digital Camera with 3.2x Optical Zoom

#1: Fujifilm Finepix E510 5MP Digital Camera with 3.2x Optical Zoom Reviews!

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

I purchased this Finepix camera as a refurbished item for my nephew to replace a crappy vivitar he had. I was able to find it for around + shipping (compared to 5 new). Once I received it I opened it because I was unsure about the quality of the camera and the condition since it was a refurb. It had some small scratches but still looked pretty sharp. Simple colors, small but reasonable size, and easy to use accessories were the hallmarks of the E510.

I turned it on and played with it for awhile. The camera has as many features as most high-end 35mm units. It takes full video with sound. The photos are stunningly clear and consistent. The pictures can be set a 5Mpixel or several lower settings to conserve memory. It has more features than I can or am willing to describe here. The real downside is the xD memory card, they're teeny tiny small and more expensive than other flash memory. If you are looking for a consistent, FAIRLY simple (if you've used 35mm cameras before this is no problem), and reasonably priced camera, you've found it. Even closer to the brand new price of 5 I would consider buying this camera. My nephew loved the software cd that came with it. The included software didn't need to be installed for Windows XP (plug and play). He described the photo management software as a very basic version of photoshop. All in all this is a fully functioning digital camera for a great price.

Fujifilm Finepix E510 5MP Digital Camera with 3.2x Optical Zoom Features

  • 5.2-megapixel sensor captures enough detail to create photo-quality 13-by-17-inch enlargements
  • 3.2x optical zoom; 4.1x digital zoom
  • 4 preprogrammed scene modes; 2-inch TFT LCD monitor; PictBridge compatible
  • Store images on xD Picture Cards (16 MB xD card included)
  • Powered by 2 AA-size batteries (alkaline included, rechargeable Ni-MH batteries recommended)

Still good in 2009 ! - Anthony H. Conroy - Melbourne Australia
This amazing camera will still do more than most low to Medium priced
Digital Cameras even in 2009 ! Typically Manufacturers have been driven by the need to go for higher megapixels (not always a good thing) and in order to do this have sacrficed things like optical viewfinders ,Multi shooting modes eg Full Manual,Shutter Priority,Aperture Priority etc,to name a few!
Ok i know it's bigger than the cameras we are seeing now, but not many cameras will run on two "AA" batteries and you can even buy these in Katmandu ! The lith-Ion batts supplied for the majority of current cameras
are almost expensive as the cameras they go in ,and they always seem to need recharging.
One last thing the lens starts at 28mm(Wide)so you will be able to get the subject in the frame let me tell you this is a big advantage.
You can still get hold of these, even 2nd hand is worth considering, and also the E500 which is only one Megapixel less, but still has all the features of the E510 Even though i have expensive Digital SLR's i find that i actually use the E510 more

Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Green)

#1: Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Green) Reviews!

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

This camera, the Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Silver) takes great pictures! And it's completely effortless. The 12.1 MP and 4x optical zoom PLUS optical image stabilizer is perfect if you have a shaky hand (as I do) and like to take candid shots without a tripod. And I love that this camera has "face detection" that can also be used WITH the self-timer so it waits for YOU to get in the picture before it focuses. Smart!

The details are SO good I can print out large prints or make detailed images for my computer's desktop/display. NO pixels, very crisp.

I have a wide-format printer (Canon Pixma Pro9000 Professional Large Format Inkjet Printer (9995A001)) and these look great at even the full size - 13 x 19 inches. Close-ups or distant shots come out equally sharp. I typically take a lot of shots of my kids close up and also beautiful landscapes when we go camping.

I recently returned from such a trip and shared my photos on Facebook with another mom who had been there with us, who was using a professional camera like this: Nikon D90 DX 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Nikkor Zoom Lens - you know the kind with exchangeable lenses. Our shots are virtually indistinguishable. What more can you ask for!? She remarked at how good they are and even made one of them her new profile picture!

In the past using my old camera, before my photos were "perfect" I would have to upload them to the computer and "FIX" them using photo retouching software - to make adjustments to brightness, contrast, shadows, highlights, temperature, tone, etc. NOW when try to do this using "Auto Adjust" NOTHING needs fixing! The pictures already have natural skin tones and backgrounds are bright enough.

Another crazy good thing - anyone who's tried taking pictures of small kids knows how much they jump around when you're trying to get that perfect candid shot...OR if there's 2 in the picture and 1 more says "HEY ME TOO!" and jumps in before you hit the button, this camera automatically UPDATES for this new kid/increase in the number of faces. SO the stress is gone! There's no need to rush everyone to get in the picture because it just KNOWS when a new face pops in. Even when my kids are moving and rearranging it adjusts for the perfect shot without my having to refocus.

I don't see how you could come up with any more features at this price. It's just the perfect camera. Not too heavy or bulky either, fits right in my pocket. Crazy! And since I don't really take the time to adjust my ISO settings, I typically just use AUTO and it's perfect every time. Brilliant!

Canon PowerShot A1100IS 12.1 MP Digital Camera with 4x Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 2.5-inch LCD (Green) Features

  • 12.1-megapixel CCD captures enough detail for photo-quality poster-size prints
  • 4x optical zoom and Optical Image Stabilizer; 2.5-inch LCD screen
  • DIGIC 4 Image Processor with evolved Face Detection Technology; Face Detection Self-timer
  • Uses 2 AA-size batteries
  • Compatible with SD/SDHC, MMC/MMC Plus/HC MMC Plus (not included)

Overall satisfied. - Diamond -
The only complaint I have so far is on certain settings, it takes too long for the picture to load; therefore, you cannot continuously shoot pictures. You have to wait a few seconds in between. Other than that, it takes some of the best quality pictures that I, as an amateur, have ever taken.

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1Y3VA7I9SJ9WV I bought this camera mainly for the high speed video capability, and I have not been disappointed. This camera's high speed video capabilities are far and away the best you can buy in this price range. In fact, I don't think there is anything on the market right now that can match these abilities even if you were willing to pay 2 or 3 times the price of the EX-F1.

High speed video
The closest competitors to the EX-F1 (besides Casio's other high speed video camera, the EX-FH20) are Sony's HD camcorders that can record 240 frames per second (although not in HD) for a whopping three seconds. I've never used one of these cameras, but I have to imagine the 3-second clip length limitation is quite cumbersome to work with. The EX-F1, by contrast, is limited only by a 4 GB file size cap. High speed video (at all three speeds) takes up about 2MB/sec of recording, meaning you can record for about 30 minutes in high speed mode before you reach that 4GB file size limit. Of course, it would take 300 minutes, or 5 hours, to watch back the whole clip if you were shooting 300 fps. That's a limitation I can live with.

The 1200 fps resolution is pretty small and pixilated, but I'm still glad to see that speed is available. I use it sometimes and the results can be quite interesting even if they are thumbnail-size.

One thing you may or may not be aware of is the amount of light required to shoot high speed video. High speed video, by definition, requires very fast shutter speeds. You must use at least 1/300th, 1/600th, or 1/1200th shutter speed to shoot 300, 600, or 1200 frames per second, respectively. Basically that means you need very bright lights or daylight. I can shoot 300 fps indoors with the aperture wide open at ISO 400 using 600W of light pointed directly on the subject. Anything less than that and your video will come out dark and/or grainy. See my youtube video on the subject called "Casio EX-F1 noise level test": [...]

High speed video downsides
I use this camera to shoot high speed video of things like skateboarding. I'll set up the camera on a tripod, start recording, and go try a trick. Often it takes lots of tries to land it, and if it takes me five minutes to land my trick, then I want to play it back to see how it looks. But the only way to get to the end of a video clip is to fast forward through the whole thing, and when you shoot at 300 fps, "fast forward" means about half real speed. That means I'd have to literally sit for ten minutes waiting for the camera to fast forward to the end of the clip so I can see what I just recorded. It would be really handy if there was some way to quickly skip to the part of the video you want to see, like if you could roll the dial and each click would jump 2.5% of the way though the clip, so 40 clicks would get you to the end of a video of any length. But there is no feature like that. Is someone from Casio reading this? Please add this feature or something like it.

Overall, though, I'd say this is an outstanding camera for high speed video and you won't find anything even close to it in a consumer level price range.

HD video
The high definition video looks great, but the problem is I can't edit the highest resolution (1080P) video. Sony Vegas will read 1080P AVCHD files from Sony and Panasonic cameras, but not Casio. I just discovered today that Sony Vegas 6.0a will, however, read 720P HD video from this camera. Since before today I didn't know of any way to edit my HD videos, I have shot very few. I have noticed that the focusing tends to "hunt" a little bit even when shooting in broad daylight. For me, HD video is a bonus because my primary usage of the camera is for high speed video.

Photos:
It may sound strange, but I have taken very few photos with this camera. I have a Canon 350D DSLR and also a Canon 5D DSLR, so I didn't buy the Casio for photos. And it's a good thing, because if your primary interest is photos, you can do better for ,000 (try a Canon digital rebel). Of course, if you think you will have a lot of usage for the rapid-fire full resolution stills, you won't find another camera that can match that. It looks like a pretty cool feature, and I've tried it out just to see how it works, but I haven't had any real usage for that feature yet.

The macro capability is decent, but it captures the closest photos when the zoom is at its widest angle and you put the camera about an inch from your subject. Needless to say, it is quite difficult to light the subject when the camera lens is looming an inch away. You can move back a bit and zoom in, but the closest focus distance quickly increases as you zoom in, meaning you can't get as close of a macro shot.

Casio Exilim Pro EX-F1 Digital Camera, 6.0 MP, with 60fps High Speed Burst Mode, Full HD Movies, 12x Optical, 4x Digital Zoom, 2.8" HP LCD Screen Features

  • Full Resolution Photography
  • Ultra-high speed burst mode
  • Captures the crucial moment
  • A maximum of 60 images
  • Five shots per second

Konica Minolta Dimage E500 5MP Digital Camera 3x Optical Zoom

#1: Konica Minolta Dimage E500 5MP Digital Camera 3x Optical Zoom Reviews!

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

I bought this camera a few years ago but, after my recent experience with it, decided to write a review.

I never had battery issues, as I started off right away with AA Nimh rechargeables. I don't know why anyone would use anything but rechargeables nowdays.

I've found the camera easy to use. The only things I don't like are the macro feature is useless, there's no viewfinder, and the microphone for video is useless.

Having said that, we were in Minneapolis after Easter and, while loading up the car, I put the camera on the roof so I could have hands free to put the bags in. About two miles down the road, going 60mph, I heard something rattling on the roof. The camera! I started to slow down, and, in the rear view mirror, saw a silver flash as the camera flew off the roof. More silver flashes as it hit the pavement and lay in the middle of the lane with cars whizzing over it.

We turned off on a frontage road and went around, expecting the worst. Fortunately, no one had run over it. The batteries were gone, although we did find one in the ditch. The SD card was halfway out and the zoom button was also missing. I put fresh batteries in it, pushed the SD card back in, closed it up and turned it on...It still worked! It still takes great pics, although I have to use a pin to push the zoom contacts in or out.

This is one tough little camera.

Great little camera! - Teressa K. Shoreland - Denver, CO
I can't believe there are so many negative reviews about this camera. I've had mine for three years, and I love it.
