Takes horrible pictures - jrgreen2005 -
This camera takes horrible pictures! Pictures taken indoors come out with a yellowish tint. The camera makes people's faces oily and washed out. I have had to retake the same picture three times to get this camera to take a decent one. I do not recommend this camera to anyone. There are other cheap digital cameras that take decent pictures. This Sony is not one of them!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28S 10.1MP Digital Camera with 18x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

#1: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ28S 10.1MP Digital Camera with 18x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) Reviews!

My wife and I purchased this camera in March 2009. So we have had some time with this camera before writing this review. The camera is excellent. Picture quality is excellent. Plus we love how there is so many ways to customize the camera's settings. We purchased this camera to use for vacations and family functions. We also have a baby on the way and figure we will be using it for her as well. We were looking for a camera that has better picture quality then a point and shoot and more ways to customize the camera's functions. There is a learning curve if you are coming from a point and shoot camera. However, I feel that is part of the fun.

Recently I was using the manual mode on the camera for the first time. I was adjusting the settings and noticed that the mini joystick is working in all directions but to the left. This drives me crazy because there is not other way to adjust the manual settings except with this joystick. This means until we have it fixed we will not be able to use manual mode settings. We are overly careful with this camera so I am confident it was this way from day 1. I wish I had experimented with camera more and noticed this while it was still under warranty.

Samsung NV10 10.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom with Advance Shake Reduction

#1: Samsung NV10 10.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom with Advance Shake Reduction Reviews!

I've had two of these over the last three years, the smart-touch interface works very well, much better than scrolling through menus. Very small, pocketable, although I ended up gluing a small washer around the on/off switch to prevent it from turning on accidentally.
The manual shutter speed control makes this camera capable of generating panoramas (with suitable software). Colors are vivid, image is sharp, but noisy at high ISOs. Anti-shake works- at a cost of noise and resolution. I have used it as low as 1 second and managed to get usable images. The newer NV models have an extra dial for "scenes", not really needed. Audio recording works good- not Hi-Fi but you can record for over an hour. Movies are OK, you can record about 40 minutes or more on one battery. Definitely get a spare battery or two if you shoot a lot.

You can find these refurbished for about 5, nothing else in that price range can touch it.

I have purchased two of these cameras - E. Augustine -
I love this camera and have taken some incredible shots with it. The portability makes it an irreplaceable camera. I lost one and brought it again. The best shots are the shots you take and this camera is an awesome go everywhere camera. I have blown up the photos I have taken with this camera all the way up to 20x30. I have dropped this camera several times and the rugged housing has kept it in tact.

I have taken such great pictures with this camera that two friends have purchased it also.

#1: Casio EX-Z33BK 10.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Black) Reviews!

I've had this camera for two years, bought it as a replacement for the Casio my toddler destroyed, and it has always worked great as my go-to, stuffed-in-a-pocket mommy camera. Takes great pictures, easy to manipulate. Takes great video, too, as long as you don't use the zoom while doing so. I've been pleased with the camera all in all, but I felt I really needed to write a review after I accidentally dropped the camera in my daughter's bathtub last night while trying to get a video of her splashing in the tub. I thought the camera would be fried for sure, but I let it dry out with the battery hatch open overnight, and it is now working again, with the only after-effect being a slightly discolored band on the LCD screen, not at all affecting the picture quality as saved on the SD card. I've got to say, I'm impressed, Casio! And even if it hadn't survived its bubble bath, I probably would have tried to find an exact replacement. Who needs more than 10 megapixels, anyway?

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500K 10.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black)

#1: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX500K 10.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Black) Reviews!

I was tired of my Olympus XA rangefinder film camera getting stuck so that the film would not advance and the shutter would not fire. I have used it for a long while and really enjoyed a "small shooter" I could pop out at any time and snap a quick candid. This camera is not as unobtrusive as the XA because it has no viewfinder (only the screen) meaning I have to stand there with my arms out staring at the screen and looking a lot more conspicuous. I also lost the three-point stabilization of two hands + face that helped hold the camera steady.
Having said all that, I am very glad I bought this. The photo quality is nice ISO 200 or lower and reasonable up to 400. Compared to a film camera not so good but to other digitals in the same genre I find that it excels. The menu system is so intuitive as to make the manual unneeded for standard shooting (read it anyway -- there are a lot of amazing features available).
The Leica-branded optics are excellent... I have seen very little flair, almost no falloff or vignetting, and no CA (at low ISO). The camera gets noisy quick at 400 and images shot at 800 or higher are not usable unless you just want something to prove you took a picture. This was never my requirement and my intent is to use this camera until a decent, pocket-able DSLR becomes available and affordable (Micro Four Thirds, I would guess, but even the current generation is not quite ready for prime time) or until I am willing to spring for a Leica D-Lux or something comparable.
In the meantime, I find this camera a ready and able street-shooter. The biggest pluses I can mention are:
--Rapid shutter. You push, it shoots. Push again, it shoots again. The shutter release is VERY responsive, one of the biggest problems with most compact digitals.
--Flash is a fill flash. No harsh shadows.
--Image Stabilization. Compensates for the hand shake with a compact.
--Small, light, and unobtrusive. Fits nicely in a shirt pocket or a cell-style belt pouch.
--Extremely well designed and intuitive menu system
--Full manual control over exposure and aperture with an excellent TTL meter. This is rarely available on a compact and makes the term "point and shoot" invalid when applied to this camera, though it can be used that way.
--Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority modes, as well as Program AE.
--Extremely accurate auto-focus
--Auto-focus is FAST
--Depth of field is displayed right on the screen (e.g. 1.5f to 35ft)
--Auto-focus is easily adjusted shot-by-shot if desired...just touch the AF point on the screen
--Extra wide-angle lens perfect for landscapes and large groups.
--Optical zoom with the ability to completely disable so-called "digital zoom". In fact, it was disabled by default on my unit.
--Battery life is so long as to obviate the need for a spare (but I still have one). I shoot for 10 days or so without recharging and the battery has never been dead yet. Caveat: I almost never use a flash.
--JPEG engine seems to produce high quality files that are not overly large despite the high megapixel count
Cons:
--It is a compact digital, no viewfinder
--So-so image quality at ISO 400, noisy at 800 and useless at 1600. These are not a concern for me. The image stabilization has allowed me to shoot at the lower ISO speeds with a slower shutter speed and not see any motion blur (or only background subject motion, not camera shake).

Overall, I find this to be an outstanding camera compared with ANY compact digital. I highly recommend this camera.

Uggh - Gift Card Recipient - United States
I only got this camera because I was going to Europe and needed a camera. I wanted a canon but couldn't find any in store with a rechargeable battery. I dislike this camera more and more every time I use it. The picture quality is awful. Almost everything comes out blurry not matter what mode you're in. It often freezes if you take a picture too fast or switch from picture taking to reviewing quickly. The video option is not fantastic and I find that I hardly use it. I hate that Casio does not have its own program for uploading pictures and then editing them etc... I don't use this camera much and its usually just sitting on my desk but it still has managed to start to fall apart. The lens gets stuck and a lot of time when i try to take a picture the screen goes black so I have to turn the power off and then on again. Seeing as I hardly ever use the camera, it does not make sense that it is falling apart. Don't get this camera it is a waste of money. You can get a canon one for around the same price that is so much better.

Being Tough:
It's pretty good. I have dropped it so often that I have lost count. I'm short 5'5'' and it's rated at 6 feet drop I believe. The casing in front of the camera, the green piece of metal is dented and litter with scratches that you can't really see, except for one where the paint is off. I have a screen protector because I'm paranoid about that part of the camera (it ain't scratch proof). I dropped it in a wishing fountain and it's fine. Most of the time I put it in jean and just go through the day with it in my pockets. My real carabiner with my keys would tap my jean's pocket with the camera on it and it still work. Took it to... New Port Beach, I believe, and it was fine -- made sure the sands didn't go into the lens but other then that it was fine.

Picture Quality:
This is my first digital camera and I'm not a professional photographer or anything, so I can't say much about picture quality. It's decent but you can't take like a picture of a wood pecker from 7 feet away with max zoom and whatever (I've tried it). I found it annoying when I was trying to take pictures of the aphids, green little bugs, that was on top of my black car, couldn't focus. If you zoom in it can't focus and if you zoom out you can't take a picture of the insects because they're a bit small. So those are the two things I've noticed maybe there are options to fix that, if there are any I haven't found it. So overall, my impression of picture quality is decent and maybe a bit below that.

Main reason I wanted one because I wanted to take picture of my adventures but it have to handle my daily life and it does that spectacularly. Oh you can use it for video recording which is ok I guess. I haven't use it much for anything other than taking pictures.

Better have a steady hand - R. Topper -
The camera is durable as my wife found out when she dropped it out of her lap exiting the car. I love to show off it's waterproof by dropping it in a glass of water in front of friends (make sure everything is closed).

It takes great pictures, but my gosh, you better have a steady hand. My wife can't take a focused picture to save her life and even when I try, it is difficult. I've tried different settings, even the "steady hand" and I get a good amount of pictures but I'd say 30% are out of focus. And when you take trips or are trying to capture a memory, it really sucks to find out later that the picture was out of focus.

I would still recommend this camera, just pay close attention to the focus.

Olympus Evolt E-3 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with Mechanical Image Stabilization (Body Only)

#1: Olympus Evolt E-3 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with Mechanical Image Stabilization (Body Only) Reviews!

>>>>See More Details & Check Price Now!<<<<<

On my first day of field use the lens cap fell and broke. The second day of field use, the flash hotshoe cover was missing. On the third day, the remote cable cap was missing. The only cap that stayed on so far is the flash remote cap. When I googled online to replace these caps, I found out many users like me have problem about caps falling. Olympus caps is not covered by the warranty, so they referred me to their parts store. Check comments for the links.

Be careful about these caps because the weatherproof feature, the main reason I purchased the camera, is only good when these caps are on. When I unknowingly lost my remote cable cap, my camera malfunctioned when it got splashed on. My camera won't stop shooting and non of the buttons and screen worked. I have to prematurely end my picture taking for the day. When the camera dried off the next day, it worked normal again. Without E-3's weatherproof feature, I would settle with half the price DSLRs that can take just as good photos. I think Olympus need to improve their caps from falling off.

Other improvements I would like to suggest is first, auto focus capability for lcd screen use. The worlds fastest auto focus will only work when optical view is used. Without it, I have to look back and forth from my optical view and lcd screen. Or I can use the lcd screen all the way, but do everything manually. I aim through my optical view and see the results on my lcd to make sure there's no overexposure, underexposure or out of focused pictures. It would really be easier if I can use the lcd screen all the way just like point-and-shoot cameras. Second , the optical view does not work when the lcd screen is being used. I think it would be great if I have the option to use both optical view and lcd screen simultaneously, so I can use the live view facing to my subject while I use the optical view just like a video camera with articulating screen. Third, I think it would also great if the buttons were bigger for users wearing thick gloves. Fourth, many people say it is heavy and bulky but I don't think it is a major draw back. If olympus can make this camera smaller without compromising its features that would be great. But if not, this disadvantage won't stop me from puchasing this item.
Last, capability of taking a video like Canon Mark II and Nikon D90 would be a great option.

I gave E-3 four stars because I love the weatherproof feature, articulating screen (you can take photos of the eifel tower with you in it! Place this camera closest to the ground, zoom out, and use the articulating screen to aim), fast auto focus when paired with 12-60mm, and the lens options. If the recommendations are addressed mentioned above or at least have better caps and have an auto focus capability when lcd is used like the point and shoot cameras, I'd give this camera a 5 star.

Great colors, rugged camera, a workhorse, ideal for travel - Luca P.C.P. - Mountain View, CA
I have had my E-3 for two years now. It is a fantastic camera, and a real workhorse.
The E-3 has an external white balance sensor, and in part due to that, in part due to the famed Olympus color processing, the photos it takes have wonderful color -- both natural, and incredibly pleasing.
The low-light sensitivity is perhaps not on par with other cameras: I find it acceptable up to ISO 1250 only. On the other hand, the image stabilization system (in-camera, works with every lens) works very well, and I can take sharp pictures (even when viewed at 1:1 magnification) with shutter speeds down to 1/10s.
The camera is fast and responsive, the viewfinder is large, and provides full information.
I bought this camera with the Olympus 12-60 lens, but lately, I prefer the 14-54 on it as my standard lens: it is lighter, it gives more working distance for macro photos, and it balances a bit better.
The camera, and the lens, are sealed against rain, dust, and humidity. I think this combo is an ideal travel camera. The lens is equivalent to 28-108 in 35mm format, it is bright (f/2.8-3.5), and it has excellent macro capabilities. The overall set is resistant to weather -- it is something you can put into your backpack, and be able to rely upon regardless of the conditions in which you will be shooting.
I use mostly the RAW format, processing RAW files with Olympus Studio or Capture One (LightRoom is not as good with respects to color rendering, for the Olympus E-3).
However, even the out-of-camera JPGs are very good.
Overall, I highly recommend this camera: a dependable workhorse, with high-quality versatile lenses, that just keeps delivering outstanding results.

Terrible camera!! - D. Pellegrini -
I received this camera for Christmas last year and have had nothing but problems. It seems to have a mind of its own. It picks and chooses which pictures to save and which to create a file error. It is very frustrating and very undependable. I have never had so many problems with a camera ever.
