Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 MP Digital Camera with 12x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD (Black)

#1: Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS3 10.1 MP Digital Camera with 12x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom and 3 inch LCD (Black) Reviews!

I own two Lumix cameras. The LX3 and the ZS3. They are two completely different animals. The LX3 is, in my opinion, digital equivalent to a Leica in the 1930's. It is a very sophisticated camera with a wide view in it's fast, Leica, world-class lens. The only drawback is the short zoom. I gladly sacrifice the zoom length for the control overrides and other professional features this camera offers. The ZS3 being reviewed here also sports a world-class Leica lens but it is, by nature, nowhere near as fast. I try never to take flash photos with a point and shoot as I find the results appalling. This is true of both of these Lumix cameras. The LX3 however has a hot shoe for a good flash that works extrememly well. I did not realize that the ZS3 does not have a hot shoe so I do not use it much once the sun goes down or indoors at night. I bought the ZS3 for the long zoom lens (300mm) and I have been very pleased with it. The pair of cameras satisfies just about all my needs in digital point and shoot cameras.

Blurry in low light - ian_alexander - Boston, MA United States
Bought it after reading lots of good reviews but disappointed. Had to return it as most of the pictures if not under bright light are somewhat blurry. Not very usable indoors unless using flash. Much worse than my Olympus C4000 which is an excellent camera taking low light pictures. Switch to buy a Canon S90. S90's pictures are not as sharp as Olympus or Panasonic when printed but they look good in computer and it performs better under low light, it's also smaller and easier to carry.

I have no speical talent when it comes to photography, but this camera make me feel like a pro! there are so many great settings for scenery and action shots, which take out all the guess work. my main goal was to find a camera that would be reliable because the pictures from my old sony cybershot always came out blurry if i moved even a tiny bit. But the pictures from my lumix are Crisp and Vivid and i was even able to capture a game of ultimate Frisbee without a single blurry shot! (plus the HD video is a great bonus) love love love love it!!!

Love the camera-needed an upgrade after I dropped my s-550 in the sand lense side down! Did some research; great point and click camera. Great shot quality, even without flash! After turning it on it has a slight second delay before it takes a picture or goes to play mode but other than that I have no complaints. Love the color, love the pictures, love the sleekness. Highly recommended!

My Old Camera - AshleyR2011 -
I Have Had This Camera For Over 2 Years Now, When I First Got It, It Was The Best Thing Out...Now..., Im Starting A Photography Page, And It Seems Like This Camera Lacks The "HD" Look When It Comes To Pictures. It Held Up Well Over The Years, But Its Time For A New Camera. The Video Quality Sucks!, So Dont Base Your Buy On That. It Takes Ok Pictures, I Mean It Got Me Started On My Photography...I Would Recommend This For The Average Teenager, Or A Busy Mom Who Doesn't Want To Miss Those Special Moments.

Nikon Coolpix L18 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Navy)

#1: Nikon Coolpix L18 8MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Navy) Reviews!

I once brought a Kids camera for my 5 yo. He loved it. It was garbage. It ate batteries. It had a junk 1" screen. It took HORRID picures. AND It cost me !! Awful!!!

So I did plan B. I brought this camera refurbished. At the time it was with shipping. I gave it to him. Forewarned him about always using the strap and not touching the lens. I must have told him 100 times. He knows now and is careful.

HE LOVES IT. He doesn't want to print the pictures(never did). He just takes shots and records movies. He takes hundreds of them. Some nice ones! He can edit them on the camera too. He figured this out on his own. A 5 yo. (So what does it mean for those that complain about the controls...)

This is a nice camera with good battery life. Takes nice pics and is cheap. I'd do it again for him.

Was working fine, until... - AJ -
I bought my camera a little over a year ago. It was my first digital camera, and I was very happy with it at the time. Recently, though, the lens got stuck, and the LCD screen said 'lens error'. I followed the instructions which said to take out the batteries for a day, and put them back in. That trick worked for a few days, but then it got worse. Now, the lens is totally stuck and I can't do anything with the camera.
I called their customer service area, and was able to get them to tell me it could cost to 0 to repair #could not get a free repair since the 1-year warranty had lapsed#. I then checked with a local authorized dealer who stated it would cost around 0 to repair.
So, needless to say, instead of getting it fixed, I am just going to shop around for a new one. Why pay to fix this, and possibly have it happen again, when I can just buy a new one, for possibly less money. Live and learn, live and learn....

Minolta Dimage F300 5.3MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom

#1: Minolta Dimage F300 5.3MP Digital Camera w/ 3x Optical Zoom Reviews!

In many was this is the best digital camera I have ever used, in other ways the worst.

It is S-L-O-W, forget it for active kids and sports!
The pictures it produces are properly exposed and the lens is sharp.

Some of the pictures I have taken with this camera are BREATH TAKING!! Some of the pictures I have MISSED because of the slow system MAKES ME SICK!! The movie mode works well and is handy.

I picked up a refurbished unit cheap and have been using it for a month. If you can put up with the slow operation it is an awesome camera.

I haven't had any of the software issues others have complained of (who knows what bugs their computer had!) and it is way better on batteries than my last HP camera. If you can live with it, it's a steal.

Nikon Coolpix S230 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 3 inch Touch Panel LCD (Warm Silver)

#1: Nikon Coolpix S230 10MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 3 inch Touch Panel LCD (Warm Silver) Reviews!

HI EVERYONE,

THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE PERSON WHO IS REALLY LOOKING FOR A GOOD UN-BIAS REVIEW. IM 30YR.OLD GUY WHO REALLY LOVES THE DIGITAL AND ELECTRONIC WORLD & STUFF... I DID MY RESEARCH READ THE REVIEWS WATCH THE VIDEO REVIEWS AND ALL THAT STUFF BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO EXPLAIN MORE ABOUT THE REALITY OF HAVING ONE OF IT...

LETS TALK ABOUT THE PICTURE QUALITY ...

YES IT HAS GOOD PICTURE QUALITY BUT NOT EXCELLENT I WILL RATE IT AS A 4 STAR ... ABOUT THESE PEOPLE THAT WAS SAYING IT HAS A BAD PICTURE >>> BUBBLY,SANDY,GRAINY AND ALL THAT... THEY ARE ALSO TRUE !!! THEY ARE SOME PICTURE THAT ARE ACTUALLY GRAINY BLURRED AND A CELLPHONE-LIKE PHOTO'S ... BUT YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT SETTING FOR IT FOR THE RIGHT SITUATION AND LOCATION - LIKE INDOORS/PARTY AND STUFF, NIGHT-PHOTO SHOTS, THE BACKGROUND LIGHTING, AND ALL THAT STUFF. ABOUT THE NIGHT SHOTS I WILL CONSIDER IT AS AN EXCELLENT NIGHT SHOOTER THE PICTURE IS ALMOST AS GOOD AS WHEN THE SUN IS UP WELL OF COURSE THE CLOSER THE TARGET IS THE BETTER... CLOSE UP PICTURES ARE ALSO FAIR... BUT IT WILL BE ON ITS BEST ON ABOUT 3-5 FEET ON A SUNLIGHT SITUATION OR EVEN FARTHER... DONT GET FOOLED ABOUT THE MEGA PIXELS IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT YOU SET YOUR CAMERA ON ITS MAXIMUM PICTURE SIZE IT MEANS THAT YOU WOULD GET THE BEST PICTURE QUALITIES - TAKE NOTE THAT MORE STEADY HANDS CAN TAKE MORE BETTER QUALITY PICTURES

QUALITY PICTURES - YOU CAN GET THAT ON THE TYPE OF THE CAMERA LENSES... OF COURSE THE BETTER LENS THE BETTER PICTURE OUTPUT ... AND ON THIS CAMERA NIKON S230, THE PICTURE IS JUST FAIR THE PRICE I'D PAYED FOR IS JUST MATCHES THE QUALITY OF THE PRODUCT... I WILL STILL CONSIDER IT THAT I'M STILL A WINNER BY CHOOSING THIS CAMERA... MONEY WISE QUALITY WISE ...

ABOUT THE PHYSICAL QUALITY OF THE CAMERA,

THE CAMERA IS LIGHT AND ITS EVEN LIGHTER THAN MY BLACKBERRY CURVE (CELLPHONE) SOME PEOPLE LIKE IT HEAVY AND AS SOLID AS POSSIBLE AND SOME LIKE IT LIGHT .. LIKE ME I WOULD LIKE IT HEAVIER THAN WHAT IT IS ANYWAY THE RATINGS ARE ALSO FAIR THE DESIGN IS NICE ITS COMPACT SMALL AND CUTE 5 STAR ON THAT

ADVICE - WHATS GOOD AND WHATS NOT

IF YOU ARE THE TYPE OF PERSON THAT JUST WANT TO POINT AND SHOT THIS IS NOT FOR YOU THIS CAMERA WILL BE MORE APPRECIATED IF YOU FIND THE RIGHT SETTING FOR THE RIGHT SITUATION AND LOCATION ... IT WILL BE MORE SETTINGS THAN YOU WOULD THOUGHT AND ITS A TOUCH SCREEN... THAT WOULD GIVE YOU SOME DIFFICULTIES TOO IF YOU DONT USE THE POINTER THE 3INCHES SCREEN IS FAIR BUT(PLASTIC)... AND THE PICTURE WILL BE BETTER TO SEE ON YOUR COMPUTER OR MONITOR

IF YOU HAVE A QUESTION EMAIL ME... [...]
AND I WILL TRY TO ANSWER WHAT YOU NEED MORE TO KNOW...

THANK YOU FOR READING MY REVIEW

I SHOULD PUT 4 STAR BUT 5 STAR IS WHAT YOU GUYS READ TO COMPARE IT JUST TO 1 STAR AND THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT... HEHEHE GOT CHA ...

Buyers remorse! - Andrew Mccleaf - Charleston, SC United States
The camera takes very average pictures. The touch screen is confusing. And when the camera broke, after 4 months of minimal use, Nikon said the warranty did not apply. Stay away from this product! I will never buy a Nikon product again. I should have stuck with the Kodak reccomendations.

Casio EX-Z33BK 10.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Black)

#1: Casio EX-Z33BK 10.1MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.5 inch LCD (Black) Reviews!

I've had this camera for two years, bought it as a replacement for the Casio my toddler destroyed, and it has always worked great as my go-to, stuffed-in-a-pocket mommy camera. Takes great pictures, easy to manipulate. Takes great video, too, as long as you don't use the zoom while doing so. I've been pleased with the camera all in all, but I felt I really needed to write a review after I accidentally dropped the camera in my daughter's bathtub last night while trying to get a video of her splashing in the tub. I thought the camera would be fried for sure, but I let it dry out with the battery hatch open overnight, and it is now working again, with the only after-effect being a slightly discolored band on the LCD screen, not at all affecting the picture quality as saved on the SD card. I've got to say, I'm impressed, Casio! And even if it hadn't survived its bubble bath, I probably would have tried to find an exact replacement. Who needs more than 10 megapixels, anyway?

Canon PowerShot S200 2MP Digital ELPH Camera w/ 2x Optical Zoom

#1: Canon PowerShot S200 2MP Digital ELPH Camera w/ 2x Optical Zoom Reviews!

I've had this camera for a little over a year and a half now and I just love it. It's really small, which is a huge plus. Because of the small size, it's very convenient to take with you and that means you end up taking more pictures than you normally would. I've chronicled most of the little and big events I have gone to with it. Even though it's just 2 megapixels, that is more than adequate for me--I don't rely on it for professional shots, just mostly snapshots. I have printed some photos through shutterfly, and they came out looking great. You could tell that they weren't quite as sharp as those from a regular camera, but I had taken them at the medium compression setting. They were definitely framable though and you probably couldn't tell that they were digicam pics unless you inspected them close up. I suspect pics taken at superfine would be even better. Rendition of colors is truly remarkable, and I have received many compliments from friends on this. Canon sure does seems to know what they're doing when it comes to optics. Any photos I've taken with bright colors (landscapes, flowers, etc.) came out breathtaking. The camera is made of metal, so it has a nice, high quality "heft" to it. The photo management software that it comes with is awesome--intuitive and easy to use. It may run slow on old computers though, if you have a lot of photos in your albums.

One complaint I have about the camera is that it's just okay in dark settings, even with the flash on. Also, when taking pictures of people, I seem to get red-eye a lot, even with the red-eye reduction setting on. It takes small video clips, but the resolution is very grainy and with the 64 MB card that I have in it, the maximum length of the clips is really short.

Other than that, this is a terrific, dependable camera that's perfect for the beginning digicam user or for someone who wants the convenience of a small, easily transportable camera. It comes with a far too small 8MB card, so I highly recommend getting a larger one. Also, it doesn't come with a case, so I recommend buying one because this is a beautiful camera and you wouldn't want to damage it. Canon makes one specifically for the PowerShot series that is leather and compact. You can find it at Apple stores.

Terrible in Low Light - Old Joe - Prattville, AL USA
I purchased this camera about 5 years ago and due to its inability to take a picture in low light I only used it outdoors, and it did a great job. I recently bought a new computer and guess what? Canon has not come up with any software to download any of my pictures on the new VISTA operating system. I hope they are taking care of this with their new camera models. Looks like I'll be buying a new camera but it won't be a Canon. Color me unhappy.

#1: GE E1486TW 14MP Digital Camera with 8X Optical Zoom and 3.0-Inch Touch Panel LCD with Auto Brightness (Red) Reviews!

1st camera I've owned in over 20years. It's compact yet the touch screen is large enough to be seen (I have a lot less than 20/20 vision), easy to use for those of us that don't look forward to reading manuals. If taking pix at 14 megapixals the internal storage is hella small it only holds 3 pix. I purchased a 8GB SD (class 10) at 14MPX this yeilds over 1,000 pix. The pix quality is excellent. Zoom quality is good (1st time working with zoom) I loved being able to get close up shots without being close to the target. Amazon's price made it well worth the money - saw the same camera on HSN - cost .00 more!

I have had this camera for years and love it, even though it has limitations that can frustrate. I will start with the flaws. Saving files to the card is very slow, especially if you shoot in RAW (most won't, so no big deal). It is slow (especially by today's standards) to review pictures after taking them. And it eats alkaline batteries for breakfast lunch and dinner. Other than those things this camera is exceptionally well thought out. The size and feel in one's hand is seriously good. It's the best grip ever for such a small camera (in my humble opinion). It has a hot shoe for attaching an external flash. It has full manual control of shooting if you want it. The picture quality within reasonable ISO range is stunning. It is also capable of stunning macro shots.
I have an Olympus DSLR and and E-P1 (essentially a DSLR), but I still shoot with my SP-350 sometimes because it is so small yet can do so much.
As for the problem with alkaline batteries, the solution is simple: use the new low-discharge rechargeable NiMH, or rechargeable lithiums. With those battery life is just fine. (I can not stress how much you should not even waste your time with alkaline batteries.)
I also use this camera in an underwater case when I scuba dive, and it performs very well.

Poor optical quality - Joseph L. Kashi - Soldotna, Alaska

Over the past 45 years, I have used many cameras from 11x14 and 4x5 view cameras through small point and shoot digital cameras.

When I bought an SP-350 in 1986, I had high hopes for the SP-350 as a small RAW-capable compact camera. After comparing the SP-350 side by side with several other compact cameras, including a 5MP Kodak z730 and a very sharp 6MP Kodak z760, I immediately gave the SP-350 away even though it was then my only RAW-capable camera. I was VERY disappointed in the optical quality. I could not make a sharp 13x19 print, something that both consumer-oriented Kodak cameras could do with ease. (Actually, the 6MP Kodak z760 is capable of a decent 18x24" print.)

Do yourself a favor: Spend less money and get a more modern and effective S90 or G11 series Canon. The G11 Canon lens is much sharper and the sensor is better. The SP-350 is seriously out of date (it doesn't even have anti-shake stabilization) and it was not among the better cameras even when newly introduced.

Olympus FE-350 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Zoom (Silver)

#1: Olympus FE-350 8MP Digital Camera with 4x Wide Angle Optical Zoom (Silver) Reviews!

I have delayed and delayed in purchasing a digital camera and finally settled on the Oluympus FE-350 after reading other Amazon reviews. I have used others' digital cameras in the past and didn't like the slow flash/shutter response and found the small view-finders difficult to use.

I have absolutely loved this camera!! I don't find any issue with the flash/shutter speed being delayed and like the large view-finder. I've used the camera to take pictures of flowers and birds -- the results are very detailed pictures with amazing clarity. The camera is especially good in bright daylight and takes adequate pictures in darker settings.

The Olympus software is easy to use, allowing for some creativity beyond just the normal download. Overall I would highly recommend this camera to anyone wanting a light-weight all-around camera.

Only Lasted a Year - Yogi Boo Boo -
I bought this camera almost exactly a year ago. I work in real estate, and take a TON of pictures - I wanted something without a view finder, that would take good pictures with little lag time between shots and had the wide angle feature. Not a lot of bells and whistles - no video or anything like that. The picture quality both indoors and out left something to be desired - I agree with another review who said a lot of inside pics have yellow tones. This being said I was usually able to tweak the picture quality with Picture Manager to an acceptable level. I didn't use the software that came with the camera so I can't comment on that. The battery life is not great - I bought two extra batteries, and on a typical property inspection I will use all three batteries. So, a year later the zoom button is not working consistently. It gets stuck and then starts zooming in and out crazily. So - here I am again looking for another camera a year later. I gave this three stars because overall it was adequate/average. I wouldn't buy it again - but for my purposes I should have purchased something that was more of a workhorse than this I guess.

Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens, Tamron 70-300mm Zoom, 16 GB Memory Card, Spare EN-EL9 Battery, Case, Cameta Bonus Accessory Kit

#1: Nikon D5000 Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm VR Lens, Tamron 70-300mm Zoom, 16 GB Memory Card, Spare EN-EL9 Battery, Case, Cameta Bonus Accessory Kit Reviews!

Only had a week, but everything seems OK. Only reason I didn't give a higher rating is that the camera is made in Thailand, not Japan. I lived in Thailand for five years and don't think much of their quality control, but I'm sure a company like Nikon has a handle on that.

Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera Black Gold Special Edition (Body Only)

#1: Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera Black Gold Special Edition (Body Only) Reviews!

The D60 works well, is small, lightweight, and compact, and user friendly. It is a good camera. However, there is NOT much difference between the D40 and D60 other than megapixels and price. To be honest, 6 megapixels are plenty enough to make a 16X20 print. In fact, the D60 is less sensitive to light and has a slower shutter speed, creating a higher chance for blurry pictures. The glass (lense) is what's most important, not the body. So my advice--forego the overpriced D60, save yourself 0 with the D40 and buy a super good external (bounceable) flash or put towards a better lense. This is what I wish I WOULD have done.

Vado Pocket Video Cam B-Stock (Silver)

#1: Vado Pocket Video Cam B-Stock (Silver) Reviews!

I have had this product now for about 1 year. I am an animator and always use it for shooting video reference of myself. It is extremely simple to use. Point...Shoot...then plug it into the computer. I haven't had any problems whatsoever. I have taken it hiking with me and it was really great to carry being that its really light and is unnoticeable even in my front pocket. If any one wants zoom features and more bells and whistles this isn't the gadget for you. It does have a zoom but its not too useful. I wouldn't expect to use it for anything but point and shoot. I personally would recommend this camcorder to anyone being that my experience has been a positive one. I think it is a great device that you could take anywhere. I bought a simple bendable mini tripod for it and it does great. It just screws right into the bottom. I have really enjoy this device because it is so simple. I must say that when I purchased it, I got it on sale. I got it for almost half the price its marked at now. Be sure to look around. For the price I got this device it was a steal. Definitely worth my money. Hope that helps!!!!!

Casio Exilim EX-S10BK 10MP 3x Zoom 2.7-Inch LCD Screen Digital Camera (Black)

#1: Casio Exilim EX-S10BK 10MP 3x Zoom 2.7-Inch LCD Screen Digital Camera (Black) Reviews!

Pros:
- Very small, fits in shirt pocket; a camera that you can everywhere always
- Sturdy construction, due to metal frame
- Very fast start-up and autofocus speed; real snapshot camera
- Good Monitor
- Side-bar type menu for adjustment of the 8 most often used menu items (flash, picture size, face recognition etc.)
- Very good picture quality; does not overachieve, but for normal use (blogs, 5x7 printouts, photobooks) it is more than adequate; very nice color rendition; very decent grain at low ISO settings (up until 400); don't expect Ansel Adams like photos, but for every day use the quality is very good
- Looks very stylish

Could be better:
- Very small buttons; if your in the habit of biting your fingernails, bring a pen ...
- Lens distortion; it does not look very good when straight vertical lines on the edges (like telephone poles or trees) are somewhat bent to the center at the upper part; does not play a big role when photographing people, but with landscapes and architecture, you better know what to expect
- Face recognition works slow and only when face is not angled; not big deal, but my Fujifilm F100fd does a far more better job ...

Cons:
- The so called "Handbook"; this is a joke - it is fairly thick, but only because they cramped a gazillion exotic languages in it. It is written for the total newbie and does not have any useful information for advanced shooters in it; I would like to have known what the numerous Best Shot programs do, like setting sharpness, color balance, shutter speed and so on; this information is given as two liner in the BS menu in camera, but not with much detail. So you need to guess how the pictures will come out when using the BS function.
And even if you are a novice, it lets you in the dark on so many aspects of this camera. You almost need to possess the knowledge of a pro to compensate for the lack of information in the handbook ...

Other observations:
- It was mentioned in a few reviews, that the camera looses all settings when turned off. That is not true - in the REC menu, at the "memory" tab, you can tell the camera which settings to keep when shut off. I really understand that people did not find this information - it is not mentioned in the handbook (see above ...) and if you are not a little bit experienced in handling digital cameras (this is my 15th since 1999 ...), you will not find this function easily.
- The AUTO program limits the automatic ISO setting to 200. Which is a good thing, because in higher ISO settings, the pictures show considerable noise. The Landscape Best Shot setting does the same, the Night BS setting allows ISO 1600. Would have been nice to find that kind of information in the handbook, instead by analyzing photos by my own ...
- Battery life is not great - as can be expected when the battery is as tiny as a book of matches. About 200 pictures is my average, which is acceptable for me.

So, to sum it up:
A very stylish, small, yet sturdy camera you can carry with you all the time, that makes good pictures and is especially suited for snapshots.
I use it predominantly for taking pictures for my blogs, and it is great for this.

constant image noise and blur!!! - Life Lover - Albany, NY
I've had this camera for about 5 months now, and I'm constantly frustrated with the image quality. Often blurry, and always noisy. I'm now in the market for a new camera all together. I almost always have to take a picture two or three times before it's not blurry (isn't this camera supposed to have anti-shake?) and I find the indoor quality to be the most frustrating. I've toyed around with different settings, and nothing seems to be the sure fixer. I'm now looking for a camera that has good low-light capability.

Samsung S760 - Digital camera - compact - 7.2 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MMC, SD, SDHC - red

#1: Samsung S760 - Digital camera - compact - 7.2 Mpix - optical zoom: 3 x - supported memory: MMC, SD, SDHC - red Reviews!

First of all, this is a great option for someone looking for a quality point and shoot camera. Its 7.2 mega pixels provides enough resolution to produce photos that can be enlarged quite a bit before pixelation becomes an issue. The camera is small, light, and easy to pack along on any outing.

The camera has a variety of options, including a video option that is fun. The operation is largely intuitive, with power, shutter control, and photo option wheel all on the top of the camera. There are enough built in post-photo image manuplation options that they should keep most casual photographers satisfied.

The camera uses 2 AA batteries and an SD card. Images can be easily uploaded to a computer via a USB cord or directly from the SD card.

So, if it's got all that going for it, why not 5 stars instead of 4? Well, call me old school, but even in point and shoot cameras I prefer to be able to use either the LCD screen or a viewfinder and this camera lacks the view finder. I also find that even when you use the anti-vibration option, there is a tendency for images to be blurred under marginal light conditions. That can be a pain if you ever want/need to take photos under moderate lighting conditions, but where you cannot use the flash.

All in all, this is a great little camera, and with a little tweeking it could have been a 5-star product. And, if the things I mentioned are not an issue for you, then it may well be a 5-star option for you.

I hope this helped!

Solid 4-stars.

Fujifilm Finepix Z5fd 6.3MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Brushed Silver)

#1: Fujifilm Finepix Z5fd 6.3MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom (Brushed Silver) Reviews!

I am very serious in everything that follows:

Over a course of four years, this camera has withstood more abuse than any camera should. I have literally run it over with my car at 40 mph on dirt... more than once. I have dropped it over a hundred times onto hard surfaces. The front faceplate looks like it has 3 bullet dents. The LCD screen has dust and hairs behind it. It is scratched so much you can't see scratches. It has been rained on, dropped in mud, and been literally thrown from a car traveling at 55 mph, sent into brush. It has been stuck with double sided tape to the back of a car doing 55 mph offroad. It was taped to the front of a motorcycle. It was held outside the window of a car doing 100 mph. It was held outside a car doing 70 mph in the rain. It was used in 0 degree flash freezes.

I never thought anything about Fuji... and now I can't imagine buying anything else. I simply cannot stress how great this camera is. It is not a shockproof camera--but it has earned the title!

Don't believe me? See this camera in action, "Chris Offroads his Sebring" on YouTube:

i'm surprised to read all of these horrible reviews. we have enjoyed the camera.

PROS--
-easy to use for my four year old. loved the simple buttons.
-pictures are ok once downloaded to the computer
-i don't think the LCD screen is as bad as other reviews. it's fine.
-i also have had no problems with loosing pictures from the memory. my daughter deletes all the bad ones and it keeps about 20-30.
-we've used it a lot for two days and the batteries are still fine (energizer).
-easy to grip. my four-year-old hasn't dropped it yet.
-my three-year-old has dropped it and it didn't break.
-she loves the sounds.
-software was fun. she loved making a book. super easy to use the projects.
-i like that the batteries are under screws and away from prying little fingers.

CONS--
--the FLASH! it's way too bright and the close-ups are flooded. we ended up putting a finger over it most of the time.
--the projects on the software are great, but the editing software isn't much different than photoshop. i thought it would be easier.

overall, it has been fun.

Horrible customer service - DISAPPOINTED - Boise, Idaho
We got this camera for our daughter for Christmas and the software CD didn't work. I have since called the company FIVE TIMES to ask them to replace the CD so we could use the design software for her photos and they say they will send us a replacement and still SIX MONTHS LATER - WE HAVE YET TO RECEIVE THE REPLACEMENT CD! I purchased this at Costco and will be returning it to them since we have never been able to use the defective CD. I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING WITH THE SAKAR NAME ON IT - SEEING FIRST HAND HOW LOUSY THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS!

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4S 8.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

#1: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4S 8.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) Reviews!

The main thing that I do not like about this tiny camera is that it is not SLR. I cannot see enough of what will be in the frame to frame a photo. That remains true for me for the early stages of zooming; and the slighly larger screen of the next model would not be enough better for me. I have to trust the amazing resolution to crop and resize later. The tiny size is also slow and tedious for me to handle without smudging the screen or shifting a setting button. I'm moving around in rather rough terrain, using a tripod. The lightness and size can have some advantages. Not having to fool with a light meter is nice; but some of the images are over-exposed, and I have not learned to use the iA options. With medium resolution for 3x2 aspect, I'm gettting 35 photos with internal memory, and with flash off have not recharged the battery yet. None of the bundled software has even been loaded, so no comments on that.

Not being able to pay for a digital SLR, I am very pleased with this one and would not trade it for another small one. Some photos have been added at [..] for you to see by the dates.

great optical zoom in a fairly small package. - Garvin -
there are a lot of good things about this camera. I really like the GUI and how easily accessible many of the settings are. The quality of the LCD screen is very sharp and colors are vibrant. The 10x OPTICAL zoom is a great feature! It allowed me to take a lot of nice nature shots that would not be possible with point and shoot cameras. the build quality is also very high ... the camera feels very solid and has a nice weight to it.

I do wish the instruction manual for the camera was a little more descriptive. For example, there are two image stabilization options, but it is unclear to me which is better for what situation. Also, more manual options would be nice, such as selecting shutter speeds.

This is by no means a replacement for a DSLR camera of course, but it is a nice middle ground between point and shoot and professional level cameras.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55P 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Pink)

#1: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX55P 8.1MP Digital Camera with 3.6x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Pink) Reviews!

This is my third camera, and I've owned it within the first week of its initial release. I was excited about the lenses, as well as the 'new' features that the line of cameras brought with them.

First off, let's talk about the construction quality. The outer black is semi-scratch resistant, and has not worn away significantly within the last few years. The corners that are burnished metal have worn a little, but it is minor at best. The shiny parts in the front of the camera have gained noticeable scratches, since the detail put into them is very intricate, and fragile as a result. The screen has one small scratch that I inflicted by accident when fitting a custom screen protector onto it (how ironic, no?) Since then, the screen has not received any damage, but I do need to replace the protector fairly soon, as it's taken a heavy beating.
My girlfriend knocked this camera off my table by accident one night, a fall that was approximately three feet onto wood. The camera integrity held, but for a few days the turning dial was giving me issues. This resolved itself somehow, and the camera still works fine.

The camera's video capabilities are fantastic. You can film as long as you have memory and battery to spare, and I've ended up taking videos upwards of twenty minutes using this. The videos can be several different quality settings, but I recommend buying a larger capacity card and filming at the highest for the best results.

Photos are nice and crisp, with best results during the day outside. Macro photos (close up) are nice too, but it's sometimes hard to get that perfect shot of something up close. Inside photos are good, but in comparison to canon cameras, I haven't been able to get those super crisp photos. The ISO setting I probably have wrong, but in darker photos there's a lot of noise. So just use flash...

My favorite photo setting to use is the intelligent Auto, which automatically selects whatever setting would produce the best photo, detects people's faces, and then determines if the flash needs to be used (you can also force it on or off if you like)

Battery life is fantastic! One charge can last me hours, or at least an entire day of touring. Just charge it once at night to make sure you'll still get through the rest of the day. On casual use, I only charge the camera at most once every two weeks and the battery is fine.

I continue to look at the new cameras, but have not seen anything I would prefer over my lumix yet.

Excellent Camera, Great Display and Features - R. ADRAGNA - NY, United States
This is a excellent camera, My first surprise was how bright the display is, can been seen and read outdoors. Takes great macro shots.
One issue I had was outside exposure was a bit high in bright sunlight, I adjusted it for one stop under, and now the shots have rich deep color. The camera is fast and responsive. The wide angle is perfect. Would have liked a more substantial grip, but that would have made the camera larger. Can take wide-screen video in 18 minute increments of 2gb. I take it everywhere, recommended.

Nikon Coolpix S70 12.1MP Digital Camera with 3.5-inch OLED Touch Screen and 5x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Black & Black)

#1: Nikon Coolpix S70 12.1MP Digital Camera with 3.5-inch OLED Touch Screen and 5x Wide Angle Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) Zoom (Black & Black) Reviews!

I purchased this camera when my Kodak Z1275 quit working. I have small grand kids, so NOT having a working camera is not an option.

I wanted a small easy-to-carry camera with HD video recording capabilities. I had seen the commercials for the Coolpix S70 and it looked like a good candidate for me. I ordered it on-line form Amazon and it arrived at my home in a reasonable amount of time.

I put it through its paces after charging the battery for a few hours. The on-screen display was intuitive and easy to use. Pictures can be taken using a button on top of the camera or by tapping the touch-screen. The scene selection arsenal is adequate for anything I need to do with a camera these days. The 5x optical zoom is a nice addition to have in such a small camera. The quality of the still pictures HD videos is very good. The battery life is surprising long for a camera that has no optical view-finder (the screen has to be turned on to take pictures).

To sum things up - this camera is small, well built and captures high quality images.

I'm very pleased with every aspect of this camera, and highly recommend it.

Canon PowerShot SD630 6MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom

#1: Canon PowerShot SD630 6MP Digital Elph Camera with 3x Optical Zoom Reviews!

First of all, I've owned several Canon PowerShots, way back to the S10 when memory cards were like for 32 megs. Except for one, the SD450, the image quality has been excellent on all of them. Canon's are known for their image quality and this one holds true to that. The downside to all the PowerShots prior to this one has been how awfully slow they were in taking shots, especially in low light or at night. The delay from the time you push the button to the camera actually snapping the shot could be excruciatingly slow and infuriating. I absolutely loved my S400 in every way except for how freaking slow it was in snapping shots. I couldn't tell you how many shots I have of my dog's butt/tail because I didn't properly point the camera 10 feet in front of her and take the shot just right to account for that horrible delay.

Finally, a Canon PowerShot that is quick! There are some shots that aren't quite lightning fast in lower light, but this is expected and the performance is FAR better than any other Canon I've owned. The SD450 had decent performance, but the picture quality was subpar.

Another problem I've always had is poor battery life. This one can take about 200 shots before needing to be recharged. Compared to my last camera (the SD450), that's about 3 times as many shots. So the battery life is much improved.

On a side note, another problem I've had which most ppl would probably not notice is a few dead pixels showing up over time. Canon seems to have fixed that in the last couple generation of PowerShots and it isn't an issue with this one.

I like the fact that it has no viewfinder, who uses that thing anyway? The screen is huge but the resolution is not any better than my old S400 with a tiny 1.8" screen so all shots look kind of fuzzy. I very rarely have a shot out of focus with this camera so I don't worry about it. Besides, regardless of screen size or resolution it is going to be really hard to tell if a shot is a little bit out of focus and you'd have to zoom in to tell anyway.

All in all, this is a great camera and the best PowerShot I've owned to date. I'm extremely happy with in and plan to keep it for a long time.

Kodak Easyshare P880 8MP Digital Camera with 5.8x Wide Angle Optical Zoom

#1: Kodak Easyshare P880 8MP Digital Camera with 5.8x Wide Angle Optical Zoom Reviews!

I am shooting with D70 for many years now. Well, we are going to have a family vacation which doesn't allow me to haul my D70 stuff. So I'm keep searching for a smaller and lighter camera with excellent range but cheap as well. All of sudden I saw this one in a private company they buy stuff from bankruptcy companies like CC. He got 3 of them either demo or returned units. I grab the nicest one. After shooting with it I'm very pleased with the pictures and handling. The exposure is accurate. I always have my own settings on D70. Later on I found out that my custom settings doesn't work on Kodak. Kodak exposure system is dam accurate. That's the best I had. It balances the bright area and shadow area very well. The battery life is superb. I use EVF all the time and the battery just keep going without any bar decease. Amazing!

Concerns:
* A little bit big for my camera bag. I have to squeeze it a little bit for the sake of odd positioned(but very functional) EVF.
* Lens not as clean as prime lens, but better than most of the DSLR kit lens.
* Wrting time to SD card is kind of slow in seconds. I tried a 20M/s card but not quite satisfied yet.

In all, I feel very lucky that I go this camera. I'm thinking of getting rid of my D70 stuff now.

Customer Reviews

Incredibly aggravating! - 150 F3 -
It's such a shame this camera is so infuriating to use.

There's nothing optically wrong with it. The lens is fantastic. The sensor is incredibly good. When the camera is working, it's a pleasure to use and delivers lovely photos. I find program mode works the best. Black and whites are beautiful. ISO 400 works perfectly for action photos in bright daylight. Battery life is fantastic.

List of severe problems:

Preview histogram is completely useless. Photos are always much brighter than histogram. The photographer has to guess how much underexposure is needed to compensate for the misleading histogram feature. I hate having to correct the camera 2 or 3 times because a histogram with nothing on the right 1/3d still winds up being badly overexposed. Didn't Kodak take their product out into the field to test whether the histogram gave accurate information? It would have taken 5 minutes of parking lot photography to reveal this inexcusable shortcoming.

Highlight clipping warning system behaves the same way as the histogram. Seemingly small, well controlled highlights become massive areas of blown out overexposure when the photo is taken. It's awkward and aggravating to have to correct the camera 3 or 4 times thanks to this half baked feature. I want to expose to the right for a strong, bright signal, but can never trust the P880's weird, uncalibrated metering approach.

Power switch is completely useless. Camera shuts down right when I'm ready to take the picture. I'm constantly fighting to keep the stupid camera on and missing shot after shot after shot after shot after shot. Power switches should not cause rage and disappointment. They are well known electronic components. Why Kodak decided to use a rotating switch directly in contact with the shutter button and put a "favorites" setting I have no use for on the same ring is a mystery. I hate this camera's completely unreliable power switch design. I want it to stay on, not turn off over and over and over when I'm trying to enjoy photography. This is the only consumer electronics device in my life that is incapable of staying on. It's a fatal flaw that makes me feel nothing but regret that I opted for a "prosumer, high end" camera that totally fails to work 3 years in. I mistakenly presumed spending more on a camera would mean better quality. Wrong.

Time lapse is completely useless at night or in low light. It does not allow exposures longer than 0.5 seconds in MANUAL MODE. I can understand it objecting if I'm trying to do 11 second exposures every 10 seconds, but why can't it give me at least 4 seconds? What is the reason? Kodak needs to let the user have full manual control of all settings and allow full functionality at all times. Even if I wanted a series of 16 second exposures, the camera's firmware should be bright enough to just wait 10 seconds after processing each photo. The 0.5 second limit still applies with a 30 second delay. It's this kind of poor interface that ruins photography and makes me want to give up. Sometimes I want to use f/8, ISO 50, and more than 0.5 seconds, but the camera won't let me.

Aperture priority and shutter priority are completely useless, unless the goal is getting bad exposures. I bought this model for those features, but never use them. I can't use them because I have absolutely zero faith they will work at all.

Video is completely useless, unless the goal is 640x240 video blown up to 640x480. My Canon point and shoot from 3 years earlier was able to deliver crystal clear 640x480 video using all the pixels. Kodak apparently believes blocky, interpolated video is good enough. Why put in the video feature if it doesn't live up to the product's advertised claims? I bought the camera to ENJOY having video functionality with its nice lens. Now all I feel is cheated and disappointed.

Infinity focus is completely useless. The vast majority of infinity focus photos are completely blurry. It's so annoying to have to find something else to prefocus on when the subject you want won't lock in. Seems Kodak didn't bother to test this feature in real life situations. Why does the lens motor try to focus when the camera has been informed to simply focus at infinity? I don't understand why infinity focus is so difficult and elusive. Why put the feature in if it fails to work over and over and over? Terrible engineering! Pathetic. Ridiculous! Why, when infinity focus fails to work, does it default to focusing as close as possible to the camera, then taking the shot? Shouldn't it go the other way?

Super macro mode is bad. It offers no white balance choice. I don't mind setting white balance. I wouldn't mind if it defaulted to Auto. But why take away user control for a pretty important aspect of digital photography? There's no exposure compensation option either! All super macros in daylight become bluish, overexposed, and mediocre.

The scroll wheel behaves oddly. Moving it one click often activates it 3 clicks in the opposite direction. I have to repeatedly correct the camera's poor interface. The lack of fine, intuitive control is very frustrating.

Raw format offers nothing compelling, except revealing how pathetic the camera truly is deep down. It's shocking to see how much noise and blurriness unprocessed files have.

By the way, I'm writing this in anger after quitting a seemingly simple photo session I mistakenly thought the P880 could handle. I was wrong. I was wrong to buy this awful product. I wish I never did. I hate it!

If Kodak had told me the truth, I would not have chosen to buy this camera. Here's some honest ad copy they should have used:

"Switches itself off at the touch of a feather!"

"You want Aperture and Shutter priority? You got it! But they don't work. Just try it and you'll understand."

"Auto white balance always errs on the side of sickly yellow!"

"USB 2.0 was standardized in 2001, but we're sticking with USB 1.1!"

"Miss more shots than ever with the powerlessness of Kodak."

"Feel the bitterness."

"You'll eventually want to smash it."

It's hard to believe how many problems this camera has. I bought it specifically because it looked simpler than others. I wanted the manually operated zoom lens to avoid lens mechanism errors plaguing other brands. I wanted aperture priority to set it as desired and simply go out and take nice pictures. The camera failed to live up to my reasonable expectations.

I remember my early weeks with the camera, getting mad at how it consistently made wrong photographic choices. Exposures were regularly blown out or massively underexposed. Colors looked wrong. Things I thought were so easy in the world of Canon point and shoot photography were beyond Kodak's abilities. I never use full Auto mode. It is completely useless in all lighting situations.

Eventually Program mode solved my problems, but I wasted so much time trying and trying to get the camera to simply make decent exposures of well lit subjects that the bitterness, loathing, frustration, and disappointment linger on 3 years later.

The P880 is a tragic product. It's 95% of the way to greatness, but that missing 5% is a constant source of vexation. At least I didn't buy it early at full price.

I intend to destroy the camera eventually. I cannot in good conscience sell it or even give it away to others. That would violate the golden rule, something Kodak would do well to reflect upon.
