Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4S 8.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver)

#1: Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4S 8.1MP Digital Camera with 10x Wide Angle MEGA Optical Image Stabilized Zoom (Silver) Reviews!

The main thing that I do not like about this tiny camera is that it is not SLR. I cannot see enough of what will be in the frame to frame a photo. That remains true for me for the early stages of zooming; and the slighly larger screen of the next model would not be enough better for me. I have to trust the amazing resolution to crop and resize later. The tiny size is also slow and tedious for me to handle without smudging the screen or shifting a setting button. I'm moving around in rather rough terrain, using a tripod. The lightness and size can have some advantages. Not having to fool with a light meter is nice; but some of the images are over-exposed, and I have not learned to use the iA options. With medium resolution for 3x2 aspect, I'm gettting 35 photos with internal memory, and with flash off have not recharged the battery yet. None of the bundled software has even been loaded, so no comments on that.

Not being able to pay for a digital SLR, I am very pleased with this one and would not trade it for another small one. Some photos have been added at [..] for you to see by the dates.

great optical zoom in a fairly small package. - Garvin -
there are a lot of good things about this camera. I really like the GUI and how easily accessible many of the settings are. The quality of the LCD screen is very sharp and colors are vibrant. The 10x OPTICAL zoom is a great feature! It allowed me to take a lot of nice nature shots that would not be possible with point and shoot cameras. the build quality is also very high ... the camera feels very solid and has a nice weight to it.

I do wish the instruction manual for the camera was a little more descriptive. For example, there are two image stabilization options, but it is unclear to me which is better for what situation. Also, more manual options would be nice, such as selecting shutter speeds.

This is by no means a replacement for a DSLR camera of course, but it is a nice middle ground between point and shoot and professional level cameras.
